What makes Devi Yoga's teaching style different?
An emphasis on safely getting in and out of postures
Injuries are most likely to occur during the
transitions between postures and Marla teaches
her students the safest way to enter and exit
any asana (posture). Moving with the breath and
directing the breath is central to the practice.
Allowing you space
Marla allows students comfortable space to
experience yoga how they want to. There is always
the option to have adjustments, but Marla will
never adjust without asking the student first, or
trying to use language. Every student needs
something different and there is a space in yoga
for each individual. There is never an assumption
about what you are able to do or unable to do--
often students surprise themselves with their own body's ability!
Savasana
During the relaxation period at the end of a class or private session, Marla
guides students with imagery and relaxation techniques so the body and
mind have a steady place to focus. The final minutes of a yoga session are
often the most important for long lasting health.
Passing on the benefits of yoga
During a session, you will often hear Marla tell you the benefits of a posture
or movement. This helps the student's knowledge to increase through
awareness of the overall benefits. Yoga also helps in personal development
like getting through fears and limitations. To learn more about how this can
change your own life--contact Marla!
Body awareness
In many athletic games and in our everyday life, we need body awareness.
This is the sensitivity to understand our body's needs and abilities. It is
noticing physical sensations and knowing what every part of the body is
doing at any time. Marla guides her students in class to be aware of all parts
of the body, no matter if it's engaged or not in a posture.
